GRECO upgrades two recommendations on Romanian Integrity Agency

GRECO upgrades two recommendations on Romanian Integrity Agency

The two recommendations addressing the competences of the National Integrity Agency (NIA) have been upgraded from “partially implemented” to “implemented satisfactorily” stage, according to July 2019 GRECO’s Interim Compliance Report.

So, with regard to Recommendation V, the GRECO report shows that Romanian National Integrity Agency continues following up the implementation of its finalised cases pending before Parliament, and keeps requesting enforcement of any sanctions issued in respect of MPs.

Project LINC implemented by the Romanian NIA in cooperation with Transparency International Romania is also noted in the report: “the main purpose of this project is increasing the capacity of the central public administration and Parliament to identify, sanction and prevent cases of conflicts of interest, incompatibilities and unjustified assets and supporting the implementation of measures contained in the National Anticorruption Strategy 2016-2020 under the NIA’s responsibility”

In regard to Recommendation VII, GRECO notes with satisfaction the increasing number of files processed through the PREVENT system, which has become possible due to a rising amount of data collected electronically.
